If your HG531 v1 router is not working as it should, dropping connections or not being responsive, you should first do a reset of the router to see if the problems persist. Other scenarios where you might want to reset your router is if you've forgotten the password or misconfigured it and can't get access anymore.

Your can reset your Huawei HG531 v1 in the following way(s):

There are no specific instructions for this model yet, but you can always do the 30-30-30 reset as follows:

  1. When router is powered on, press the reset button and hold for 30 seconds. (Use a paper clip or something sharp)
  2. While holding the reset button pressed, unplug the power of the router and hold the reset button for 30 seconds
  3. While still holding the reset button down, turn on the power to the unit again and hold for another 30 seconds.
This process usually works for resetting any router to it's factory setting.

If you have performed a reset of your HG531 v1 device or not changed the defaults, you should be able to access it with the following settings:

Default Network name (SSID): HUAWEI-XXXXXX

Default Gateway IP: 192.168.1.1

Default username: user

Default password: user

Default subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Default DNS server: 192.168.1.1

How to login to the HG531:

To login to the 300Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ Router and change the settings, you can follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you are connected to the router's network, either by Wi-Fi or ethernet cable.
  2. Open your browser and visit http://192.168.1.1
  3. You should be prompted with a login dialogue.
  4. Enter the username: user and the password user
Note: If you have already changed the password use that instead.
  5. You will now be logged in. If you haven't yet changed the defaul password, we recommend that you change it first thing you do after logging in.

If these instructions don't work for your router, you can always try a factory reset to get the default, or try some other common Huawei credentials, as they can usually be shared across models/variants.

How to Reset the Huawei B315s-936

Have you ever tried to login to the Huawei B315s-936 router and not been able to do so? It might be time to consider a reset.

In this guide when I say a reset I do not mean a reboot. A reboot is a cycle in the power to the unit. A reset is a complete factory restore of all settings.

Warning: Resetting this router is a big step and shouldn't be done until you have thought of the possible consequences. Some of the settings that are going to change are:
  • The router's main username and password.
  • The wireless information such as SSID and Internet password.
  • If you have a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP (Internet Service Provider) username and password. Call your local ISP for these details.
  • If you have made any other setting changes you need to reconfigure them after the reset is finished as well.

Reset the Huawei B315s-936

First of all, make sure the Huawei B315s-936 router is turned on.
Take a small sharp object like a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds to be sure you begin the reset process.
If you don't hold this button down for the entire amount of time it's possible to only reboot the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.
Don't forget a reset like this one is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed on this device.
We strongly recommend that you try other troubleshooting methods before you continue with a reset.

Login to the Huawei B315s-936

Once you've reset the Huawei B315s-936 router you'll need to log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password.
Not sure where you can find these? We have them listed for your use in our Login Guide.
Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Following that we recommend setting a new password for your router. This can be whatever you like, however keep in mind that a strong password is 14-20 characters in length and includes no personal information.
For more help be sure to take a look through our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Keep yourself from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.

Setup WiFi on the Huawei B315s-936

It is now time to begin the reconfiguration process. One important aspect you need to reset as soon as possible is the WiFi settings.
We have a great easy to read guide for you if you are interested. Check it out here in our Huawei B315s-936 WiFi Instructions.

Huawei B315 - Firmware updates to fix slow speed

When Telkom launched LTE in 2012, we used the 2300Mhz band to offer service. It is not a common band used worldwide and as such, not all devices supported it.

Last year we started refarming our 1800Mhz band for use with LTE. This is more suited to mobile devices and has less bandwidth available.

Some of the routers like the B315 could now pick up 4G but on the slower 1800Mhz band rather than the 2300Mhz band that has more bandwidth available. Unfortunately these routers only allowed you to select between 3G and 4G.

We are currently rolling out firmware udates to our LTE routers that includes the Huawei B315 router. These updates will allow you to manually select the frequency band and set it to the speedier 2300Mhz band.
We have thousands of these devices in the field, so updates might take until the end of August 2017 to complete.

Well, if WiFi and and Wired are having the same issue, it could be your ISP.
Are you plugging it directly to your modem or your router?

BEST ANSWER

Reboot your router. If that doesn't work, reboot your modem. if that doesn't work, call the ISP and request they reset your modem (some ISPs let you do this yourself if you login to your account on their website).

You can also run traceroute to try to see where the slowdown is coming from. Traceroute actually finds latency, not low bandwidth. But usually low bandwidth is accompanied with latency. Open up a command prompt and type:

tracert 8.8.8.8

You can use any valid IP address, not necessarily 8.8.8.8. But usually the problem is pretty close to you so the endpoint won't make much difference.

It functions like ping, but gives you a ping time to every hop along the network route. First hop will be your router, second your modem or gateway the modem is connected to, then the upstream node from the gateway, etc.

The problem hop will show up as a large increase in ping time compared to the previous hop.
If you determine that the problem is at your ISP and not your modem/router, sending them a copy of your traceroute results can help them troubleshoot the problem at their end.

or

Check with your ISP. Most companies give you a lot more download connection speed than an upload connection -- for example, my connection with Earthlink (previously via Time Warner, now via Spectrum) is rated at 20Mbps down, plus the Cable MAX boost, & my download tests are generally in the 20Mbps range. My uploads however, never go higher than 1.5Mbps (although they always stay at least above 1Mbps).

It's just the nature of the service, though. ISPs figure that customers are primarily interested in downloading content vs. uploading it, so you're generally going to see your upload speeds be much, much lower.

It's primarily 'business-class' customers that need to have a more balanced load -- not just actual businesses, but anyone who has a need for high upload bandwidth/upload speeds (i.e. someone who has a static IP address because they're running a file/game server).

The big question is, when you ran the speed tests, did it give you a QoS percentage and/or a ping value, & what were your download speeds? Again, unless you're gaming or uploading a lot of files (either because you're uploading large files or because you're running a file server), your download speed is going to have the most effect on your Internet experience.

And if you're gaming, you can have a "slow" upload speed, but if your ping is low (<100ms) that'll have the best effect on your gaming experience. If your QoS (Quality of Service) is low, however, then it doesn't matter what your speeds are, because low QoS means your connection isn't consistent.

Whether that's due to in-house issues (i.e. lots of people sharing a connection, bad router/modem, etc.), "last mile" issues (i.e. squirrels have chewed on the cables a lot -- happened once to us, & I don't know how many times to my brother-in-law), or even true ISP issues (i.e. bad equipment in the local node/central office, malfunctioning boosters/repeaters, network issues, etc.), will depend on the results of troubleshooting.

Huawei HG658 Router Port Forwarding Instructions

Your Huawei HG658 router has a firewall.
A firewall is used to help protect your home network from unwanted Internet access. The firewall blocks all but a few specific ports. If you play an online game or use an online program, you may need to open additional ports so the game or program can run as it is suppose to. Opening ports like this is typically called a port forward.

In this guide we show you how to port forward on the Huawei HG658 router. We will walk you through each of the following steps in detail:
  • How to setup a static IP address on the exact device you plan on forwarding these ports to.
  • How to login to the Huawei HG658 router interface.
  • How to find the port forwarding section of the router.
  • How to create a port forward entry.

Step 1

It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.
  • Recommended - Our free program will setup a static IP address for you.
    Download Network Utilities today!
  • Or follow our Static IP Address guide to setup a static IP address.

Step 2

Now that the device you are forwarding the ports to has a static IP address, you need to login to the Huawei HG658 interface. To do this you need to use a web browser.
It doesn't matter which browser you decide to use. We recommend picking one you are familiar with. Some of the more common options are: Internet Explorer, Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.
After opening the desired web browser, find the address bar. You should be able to find this at the top of the page like this:

192.168.1.1

The address bar has 192.168.1.1 in it. Once you have found the address bar in the web browser you are using, enter the router's IP address in this space and press the Enter key. When looking for your router's IP address remember it is also called the router's default gateway and sometimes the router's GUI address.
If you have changed the router IP address in the past or you don't remember what you changed it to, then in order to find it you need to follow the directions on this How To Find Your Router's IP Address page.

Once you have entered the correct IP address into the address bar, click the Enter key on your keyboard. This should take you to the following page:

Enter the username and password in the correct spots. Then click the Login button.
  • The Default Huawei Router Username is: admin
  • The Default Huawei Router Password is: password
Note: The router username and password are NOT the same as the WiFi username and password.

Step 3

You should now be ready to find the port forwarding section of the router. To help you with this step we begin on the first page of the router:

You are now on the correct page to make a port forward entry.

Step 4

Put a dot into the Customization radio button.
Pick an available connection from the Interface dropdown box.
Use the Protocol dropdown box to select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding.
The Remote Host box needs to be left blank.
If you are forwarding a range of ports separated by a hyphen then enter the lowest number of that range into the External Start Port box and the highest number of that range into the External End Port box. If you are only forwarding a single port number then enter that number into both the External Start Port and the External End Port boxes.
Enter the IP address to forward these ports to into the Internal Host box. If you are forwarding ports so you can run a program on a device other than your computer then you can enter your device's IP address into that box.
In the Internal Port box put the port to forward.
Put a name for this forward in the Mapping Name box so that you can remember why you set this forward up. The name does not matter so pick something that has meaning to you.
Click the Submit button when you are done.
Make sure to click the Submit button after each entry is completed.
